Fiber Optic Network
Fiber Optic TechnologyAt West Wisconsin Telcom Cooperative we are committed to providing cutting edge technology to the rural communities we serve. Throughout our cooperative communities, the construction process of installing fiber optic cable to homes and businesses has already begun. With the fiber optic upgrade, WWTC customers will have access to one of the most advanced telecommunications systems in Wisconsin.
What are Fiber Optics?Fiber optics are long, thin strands of very pure glass about the diameter of a human hair. They are arranged in bundles called fiber optic cables and use light instead of electricity to carry a signal. The light signals represent data, which is capable of traveling at the speed of light. What is Fiber To The Home (FTTH)?Fiber To The Home (FTTH) is the installation and use of fiber optical cables directly to the home. Will installing Fiber Optics make my home more valuable?Absolutely. A house is generally worth much more if it has access to a public street, water, and sewer services, public schools and other "utilities" than if it does not. Consider this question, "Why would you equip your home with 120-year-old copper technology that is already obsolescent, costs as much as (or more than) fiber, and will be totally obsolete in just a few years?" |
